Scentscape - Vidhi Budhlani
Forces: the shift in smell due to wind and seasons
Provocation: As I entered the site and walked through it I noticed a sequence of changing smells carried by the air along the path. Initially the smell of fish and prawns was dominant, but it gradually faded as I moved further. This transition gave way to the earthy scent of vegetation and wet mud. Advancing deeper into the site the air became heavier and denser influenced by the nearby salt pans, where the atmosphere carried a distinct salty quality. Further along, the smell of household activities emerged blending into the spatial experience. These sensory variations highlighted how air movement directly impacts the perception of the site. The shifts in smell revealed the relationship between landscape human activity and seasonal changes emphasizing how wind direction and density alter the sensory character of the environment over time.
